Dr. L. Austin Strauch graduated from Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1975.
After being an associate in a small animal practice in Dallas for nine years, he opened the first small animal veterinary practice in Highland Village in 1984. In 2001, he and Paul McCullough, DVM, merged their solo practices to form Animal Medical Center of Highland Village.
After 44 years of practice, Dr. Strauch still loves coming to work. "Loving animals and the academics of medical science are essential to being a good clinician. But it's the relationship that you develop with the pet owner and knowing that you can help them by improving the health of their furry loved ones is what is most rewarding. It's not just a job, it's a ministry to myself and the community."
Having been an avid cyclist and sailor for many years, Dr. Strauch's interests now are yard work, nutrition and fitness, reading, studying the Bible from its Hebraic origin, and playing the piano. However, he finds the most joy in doing things with his eight children and seven grandchildren. Yes, family gatherings are a bit chaotic, to say the least!
